As one of the largest landowners in the United States, the Department of Defense has a mandate to protect and preserve our nation's natural resources for future generations. This talk will highlight some of the programs that exist to allow the DoD to carry out its dual purpose of national defense and military readiness while also preserving the land and the species that depend on it. The Avon Park Air Force Range is an example of successful integration of these two important mandates.

Patrick Blake has a background in conservation biology with a focus on avian species. He has worked with threatened & endangered species in New Brunswick, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, South Korea & the island of Kaua'i. He now lives in Sebring, FL with his wife and two sons.
