Summer Field Trips

By Mic McCarty, Field Trip Coordinator

Tampa Audubon led a field trip at Davis Park in Brandon in August.

Tampa Audubon is one of the only local Audubon societies that keeps field trips running all year long. In July, we hosted a trip to the Clearwater History Museum’s Living Waters: Aquatic Preserves of Florida display.

We also had two walks. Besides our monthly Lettuce Lake walk, we visited Davis Park, where seven birders listed thirty-nine species, including five immature, recently fledged Eastern Bluebirds. The August walks also include a trip to see Black Terns on Gandy Beach August 24.

September sees fall migration increasing in intensity. There are three other walks besides the walk at Lettuce Lake. We will visit Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Sept. 21, Wilderness Park at Veteran’s Memorial on Sept. 22 and Fort De Soto on Sept. 29.
