By Mary Miller, Tampa Audubon Society Bluebird Trail Coordinator
Tampa Audubon Society maintains 56 nesting boxes at Flatwoods Park for Eastern Bluebirds, Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice. In the last 19 years, the number of fledglings has increased from 111 in 2005 to 203 in 2023 (160%).
You can help maintain the trail by sponsoring a nesting box or boxes for $10 each. Nesting season is from March to August, and sponsors will receive a weekly activity report for not only their box, but for all the boxes, including the number of eggs, chicks and fledglings in each box.
The sponsorship program is important to TAS because it pays for all the expenses of the project, which include trail, box, and predator guard maintenance, printing of educational brochures, and camera equipment, including batteries and solar panels for our one spy-cam box.
To sponsor a box or boxes, complete the sponsorship form on the TAS website. There are two ways to apply, either on-line or by mail, described under “Sponsor a Nest Box”
Please Note: Each sponsor will be limited to one box per individual. You may also sponsor a box or boxes for family members, friends, etc., but each box must have a unique email address associated with it.
