Jonathan Hoiles

Photo Club Coordinator

Email:

Jonathan succeeded Joel Jackson as Photo Club Chair in 2022. He became interested in bird photography while stationed at the Naval Hospital in Okinawa. While scouting the island for landscape subjects, he kept running into Japanese bird photographers taking amazing photos of tropical birds. The fast-paced action of bird photography combined with the hunt for birds in the field was instantly appealing to him, and he has been learning the art and craft of bird photography ever since. Shortly after retiring from the Navy, Jonathan moved to Tampa. Learning about Florida's imperiled and migratory birds inspired him to learn more about wildlife conservation photography. His mission is to help people connect with and appreciate the natural world, with the belief that greater understanding leads to deeper caring, encouraging decisions and behavior that benefit habitat and wildlife conservation.
