Bald Eagle
The state of Florida is third, following Alaska and Minnesota, in numbers of Bald Eagles.
There are two populations of Bald Eagles in North America: southern and northern
breeders. Florida's eagles are southern breeders returning to their nests in October
each year. The young hatch in December and early January and fledge 10 to 12 weeks
later. The Florida juveniles wander as far north as Canada from May through September.

age during their fifth year. Images by Lou Newman, Sarasota, Florida, Winter, 2008.
